Anderson Road brings back lots of memories for me. Not only were the first 3 years of my life spent there, but I was actually born on that street more than 50 years ago. Anyone still remembers Mary Sim Maternity Home? Mun Thin was one of my favourite coffee shops in my teen age years. After saving up my pocket money for the week, I would give myself a treat... first a movie at either the Lido or Cathay followed by an ice cream sundae at Mun Thin. Boy! I can still remember how the banana split tasted! Kings Hotel was the old name of the Tambun Inn along Tambun Road (of ocurse). When it first opened around 1970, all us school leavers aspired to work there as waiters because the hotel was so posh. The hotel also provided accomodation for workers, and in those days, it seemed sort of inviting to be able to get out of home and be independent. But alas, and thankfully, I got to study in Singapore and left Ipoh, never to return to reside except on a holiday basis. Hey, Kayes... great site. All those pictures brings a lump to my throat. wengyew |
