Golly, Jim! You don't cease to amaze me with your knowledge of the locals and the lingo. All good stuff. :)

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the names you mentioned. My connection to Kampung Paluh came to a grinding halt in '73-'74 when all my relatives had to relocate somewhere else. The developer had bought scores of families out, yep, in the name of 'progress'. I haven't been back there since 'coz there is nothing to go back to see, visit or experience anymore. A crying shame, methinks.

I also remember other old charms of Kampung Paloh such as carefree kids whizzing in and out of neighbouring houses to get biscuits and sweets in the afternoons while elderly folks sit around chatting and fanning themselves with fans made out of cocounut leaves. There was this large common compound (open space) ringed by all the houses where kids played marbles, 7 stones, and drew lines on the ground to play hopscotch. Those were innocent times indeed, especially the 60s - before May 13, 1969. *sigh*

Would be fun to meet up with you and your wife on this trip if timing is right. I hope to find time to meet up with a couple of IpohTalk regulars whilst in Ipoh.

Another 6 days to go ... :)

Cheers,
Phoebe
