Hi Themarcha,

Here is the scoop! The Mah Cheh's godson is operating his curry mee stall in Nam Kew Coffee Shop. It is a corner shop located at the junction of Anderson Road and Leong Sin Nam Street.

You are right on the money about Mun Thin. In addition to "Kai Lup Fann", its meehoon fried in black bean sauce (See Chap Chow Mai Funn) is also very very delicious. Are you drooling yet? I vividly remember those long gone years when my late father use to adjourn to Mun Thin for his afternoon cup of coffee. I would tag along and order my favorite ice cream sundae or ice cream float. I cherish the quality time I spent with him and just reminiscing about those endearing moments gives me a warm feeling in my heart. It is regrettable that
Mun Thin is no longer in existence, and its demise has left me with one place less to patronize when I visit Ipoh again.

Perhaps you may also want to check out another coffee shop called Wah Nam. This one is a survivor indeed. It has got strong legs for sure, and is still standing proud and tall after being in business for more than 40 years! This is also a corner coffee shop and it is located on the intersection of Cowan and Leong Sin Nam Streets. There is a good collection of street food inside and all the stalls are worth a try. This shop use to be a favorite place for night owls to hangout, but these days the main focus is on daytime business and it closes quite early in the evening.

Wherever we are, most current and former residents of Ipoh share a common bond, a passion for our hometown's famous food.

Fond regards and best wishes. Bye now!

Ken.
