When I left Ipoh sometime during the late 80s, the Sri Maju bus company occupied a huge bungalow on the left of the roundabout, when you approach from Jalan Kampar. Could this be the one, I wonder. Maybe not.According to Perak history, the Istana Bendahara was the official residence of the Raja Bendahara. The last Perak Sultan who bore the title of Raja Bendahara was Sultan Idris, in October 1938. Sultan Azlan, unlike some of his predecessors, propelled from the title of Raja Kecil Besar straight into the heir apparent's throne, vacated in 1983 by the death of Raja Muda Musa.
On the other hand, it would appear that the rank of Raja Bendahara is no longer used today, as can be seen in the present line-up of Perak's Raja-raja Bergelar, which are Raja Kecil Bongsu, Raja Kecil Tengah, Raja Kecil Sulong, Raja Kecil Besar, Raja di Hilir, Raja Muda, Sultan.
