Thank goodness the demolishing plans were later abandoned. But the plans to build a shopping mall were still on. Hence the Ipoh Parade next door.

What resulted was quite sad also. The primary section of Main Convent where I spent 6 happy years had to be relocated. That is why the present Main Convent is just a secondary school.

SMI never had the same problem because it was declared a heritage building long ago. I hope they've declared the Main Convent a heritage building too! Its location right in the city centre makes it an obvious target for unsympathetic developers of high rise buildings, shopping malls etc.
