The proprietor of Paramount House was a Mr. Arasu. His assistant was a Chinese woman. Both I remembered as friendly and cordial. Paramount House was where one could buy 'exotic' playthings like Monopoly (the British version), Cluedo and Scrabble. I remember buying my very first (and last) microscope at Paramount House.

The shop in Old Town aka "kow kai cheong" was Kwong Fatt! They had toys upstairs. Downstairs was a fabric shop. Kwong Fatt devised an ingenious way of sending things upstairs and down, by using a pail and rope in the airwell!

Kamy, another shop in Old Town also had a toy section upstairs. Sadly, Kamy bit the dust long ago. Sob, sniffle.

I haven't heard of Whiteaways. Sounds like a brand of hair colour for gray hair.

Toodle-oo and cheerio!
